Basel winger Philip Otele has played himself onto the radar of two-time EFL Cup winners Birmingham City with the Championship club now looking to secure his signature this winter, Footynaija.com reports.

Otele has impressed at St. Jakob Park since joining Basel last year. The Nigerian striker initially arrived on loan from Al-Wahda in the winter transfer window of 2025, before agreeing to a permanent switch in the summer for a reported €3 million fee.

He has registered 17 goals and provided seven assists in 51 appearances for the Swiss giants over the course of his stay at St. Jakob Park, alerting clubs from across Europe to try and poach his signature.

According to recent reports from reliable football journalist Ben Jacobs, Otele now looks set to depart Basel this January with Birmingham City interested in securing the services of the explosive forward.

Alongside Birmingham City, the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Lazio, Celtic and Bournemouth are reportedly also weighing up the possibility of adding the 26-year-old to their respective ranks this month.

Amid all of the ongoing interest in Otele, Basel are reportedly open to sanctioning a sale if the right offer arrives. The Swiss giants will be willing to consider offers in excess of €7 million for their Nigerian star.

While his next destination is not yet certain, Otele reportedly prefers a move to England. Birmingham City would feel this gives them a slight edge but matters could quickly become complicated if interested Premier League suitors also make a move.

For instance, Bournemouth, having recently lost Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City, will be a more attractive destination for the wide forward, who has eight goals and three assists to his name so far this season.
