The Super Eagles of Nigeria have seen an impressive rise in their stocks after climbing twelve places to reach 26th on the latest men’s world rankings released by FIFA on Monday, Footynaija.com reports.

Nigeria’s upward movement comes on the back of a strong showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Eric Chelle’s side consistently impressed against some of the continent’s toughest opposition.

The Super Eagles finished the tournament on the podium, claiming third place after beating Egypt in the bronze final via a penalty shootout.

Throughout the competition, Nigeria recorded a series of positive results that significantly boosted their ranking points. They went unbeaten in regulation time, winning five matches and drawing two, with their only setback coming via penalties in the semi-final against hosts Morocco.

The latest ranking update represents Nigeria’s highest position in the FIFA standings in over a decade and further reflects the progress made by the national team in recent months.

Other African nations with noticeable improvement in their rankings include Morocco, Senegal, and Cameroon. The Atlas Lions are now the eighth-best team according to FIFA, placing them among the very best teams in the world.

Senegal, courtesy of their recent triumph at the Africa Cup of Nations, climbed from 19th to 12th while Cameroon, just like Nigeria, moved up twelve places from 57th to 45th.

On the continent, the Super Eagles now sit third in Africa, behind only Senegal and Morocco, reinforcing their status as one of the leading forces in African football. Algeria and Egypt make up the top five.

For Chelle and his players, the rise serves as both validation and motivation, as attention now shifts to building on the momentum generated in Morocco.

With confidence restored amid rising expectations, the Super Eagles will be keen to translate their improved FIFA ranking into sustained success on the pitch.
