Super Eagles defender Ryan Alebiosu eyes upturn in fortunes for struggling Blackburn Rovers

Super Eagles defender Ryan Alebiosu is hopeful Blackburn Rovers can experience a change in fortunes ahead of a really crucial period for them in the EFL Championship, Footynaija.com reports.

Blackburn have endured a difficult campaign in England’s second division so far, recording a measly tally of 29 points from 28 games to leave them 21st in the Championship’s 24 team standings.

This means the Rovers are just one place above the murky waters of the relegation zone. To compound their woes, Portsmouth, who occupy the 22nd spot on the standings, also have 29 points to their name and two games in hand.

Despite the glumness of their current situation, Alebiosu, who recently spent one month away at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria, is upbeat regarding the prospects of a turnaround in their season.

Blackburn have a run of three consecutive home games in the EFL Championship, and the former Arsenal man is hopeful that the team will be able to fashion out some sort of positive momentum within that period.

What Ryan Alebiosu said

“Everyone’s eager and everyone is coming back, so we’re looking forward to these next three games,” the 24-year-old said to RoversTV. “We’re all trying to be as ready as we can.

“That first win is something the group needs and I’m sure we will kick on and go from there. Wins will bring everyone together and I think these next three games all being at home is only something that’s going to benefit us.

“I hope we can use that to our advantage and build things from here on in. It’s a tough time right now, but having that bond will all get us through it, especially with the connections we have amongst the lads.”

Blackburn have played and drawn the first of those three games, after battling to a 1-1 stalemate against Watford at Ewood Park on Saturday. Alebiosu featured off the bench, replacing Lewis Miller just after the hour mark.

Going forward, the Nigeria international will be hoping to play a much more prominent role as the Rovers go in search of more positive results against Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.
