Promotion-chasing EFL Championship side, Hull City, have been hit by a massive injury blow as Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi is set for a relatively lengthy spell in the treatment room after returning from international duty, Footynaija.com reports.
Ajayi, who featured in all of the Super Eagles’ games at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and was one of the stars of Nigeria’s impressive campaign in Morocco, limped off in added time during their third-place win over Egypt on Sunday.
After returning to his club, fresh updates from Hull City Live reveal that scan results have since confirmed a damage to his hamstrings, potentially ruling the former West Bromwich Albion defender out of action for up to seven weeks.
While Hull City managed just fine without Ajayi in their most recent EFL Championship outing where they condemned Preston North End to a 3-0 defeat at Deepdale, it goes without saying that the Nigerian’s latest setback is a major blow for the Tigers.
Semi Ajayi’s hamstring issues persist

Unfortunately, this latest setback and its cause (hamstring damage) has become a recurring issue for Ajayi, who missed eight matches across all competitions at the start of the season after struggling with the same issue.
Recall that the Nigeria international also battled the same issue on two separate occasions while at West Brom last term, even spending up to four months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery during one of those spells.
Ajayi’s setback will be even more frustrating for Hull City as the 32-year-old was in scintillating form at the just concluded AFCON where he won bronze with Nigeria. With this latest setback, there’s no telling whether he’ll be able to hit those levels again.
