Leeds United have completed the signing of Nigeria teenage defender Leonard Ngenge, with the Premier League club confirming the 18-year-old will join their academy set-up after agreeing a deal that runs until the end of the 2026–27 season, footynaija.com reports.
The centre-back arrives in West Yorkshire from Nigerian champions Remo Stars, continuing a rapid rise that has seen him move from domestic football in Nigeria to the English game in less than two years. Despite his young age, Ngenge already has senior international experience, having been capped twice by the Super Eagles before turning 18.
In a statement, Leeds said: “Leeds United are pleased to announce the signing of Leonard Ngenge, who joins the club’s Academy after penning a deal until the end of the 2026/27 season. The defender makes the move from Nigeria having made seven appearances in all competitions this term for Remo Stars FC. The centre-back has featured twice for his country at senior level.”
Ngenge’s breakthrough came with Ikorodu City, where he featured regularly in the Nigeria Premier Football League and built a reputation as one of the most promising young defenders in the country. His performances earned him a transfer to Remo Stars in August 2025, and he made an immediate impression, scoring on his debut in a CAF Champions League qualifier and going on to make seven appearances in all competitions.
His progress also caught the attention of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who named in the squad to the African Nations Championship in August. He made his Nigeria debut aged 17, playing a full match against Senegal, before appearing again in a game against Sudan. Although he did not make the final Africa Cup of Nations squad, the experience of senior international football so early in his career has marked him out as a long-term prospect.

At Leeds, Ngenge will begin in the academy system, where the club believe he can be carefully developed. He becomes only the third Nigerian international to sign for Leeds United, underlining both the scale of the opportunity and the faith the club has placed in his potential.
