The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a series of sanctions on Algeria following incidents of misconduct during and after their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final defeat to Nigeria, Footynaija.com reports.
Algeria were eliminated from the tournament after being utterly dominated by the Super Eagles who went on to win 2-0. The Fennec Foxes and their fans didn’t take that defeat kindly and the worrisome scenes that ensued after the final whistle has prompted CAF’s Disciplinary Board to step in.
According to CAF’s ruling, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has been fined a total of $100,000 for multiple breaches. These include misconduct by players and officials, as well as inappropriate behaviour by supporters inside the stadium, including the use of pyrotechnics and throwing of objects.

Individual punishments were also handed down to goalkeeper Luca Zidane and defender Rafik Belghali. Zidane received a two-match ban, while defender Belghali got a four-match suspension, with two of those matches suspended on condition of good behaviour.
Both bans will be served during future Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, meaning the players remain eligible to feature for the Desert Foxes at the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer.
CAF stated that the sanctions reflect its zero-tolerance approach to misconduct at major competitions and serve as a reminder to all member associations about the standards expected in tournament play.

The Algerian Football Federation is reportedly considering an appeal against the ruling, which must be filed within the timeframe stipulated by CAF regulation
