Nigeria’s captain Wilfred Ndidi has urged the Super Eagles to move on quickly from their 4-0 victory over Mozambique and focus on fixing weaknesses ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final, Footynaija.com reports.
Goals from Victor Osimhen (two), Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams sealed a dominant last-16 win in Fez, sending Nigeria into the final eight where they will face either Algeria or DR Congo.
But Ndidi said the scoreline did not tell the full story.
“We are happy with the win, but we created many chances and should have scored more,” the former Leicester City midfielder said. “At this stage, small details matter. We have to go back, correct our mistakes and improve.”
Nigeria know they will face the winner of the clash between Algeria and DR Congo in the quarter-finals.
While pleased with the overall performance, Ndidi insisted the team’s focus must stay on their own standards rather than their next opponent.
“It’s not really about who we play next. It’s about how we play and how we keep getting better,” he added.
Ndidi reserved special praise for Akor Adams, who scored his first AFCON goal in the match.
“He’s been amazing for us. Very calm, very focused. We believe there’s a lot more to come from him.”
Nigeria will play their quarter-final later this week as they continue their push for a fourth AFCON title.
