The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee met in Abuja on Monday, gathering committee members, coach Eric Chelle, and other key federation figures to review the Super Eagles’ preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Footynaija.com reports.
Thhe meeting focused on evaluating player form, assessing commitment, and shaping the team’s strategy for the tournament.
According to a report by Score Nigeria, during the discussions, one committee member laid out the expectations for Nigeria at AFCON.
“We’re not the favourites to win the AFCON. The favourites will be hosts Morocco, Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire, so as always we have set a realistic target of reaching the semifinal for coach Eric Chelle and the Super Eagles,” the unnamed committee member said.
Also, another member highlighted the rebuilding process the federation wants to pursue.
“It’s a rebuilding process we have to undertake and so getting to the semifinal will be good. That’s the same target we set for the 2023 AFCON and we got to the final. It can still go that way again, but let’s put ourselves under so much pressure particularly after the World Cup failure,” he added.
The meeting also gave Chelle a chance to present his provisional squad and share his ideas for the tournament.
The committee stressed the need to balance experienced players with emerging talents, aiming to keep the team competitive while building for the future.
With Morocco hosting and strong sides like Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire in the mix, the Super Eagles face a tough competition for the continental title. The federation’s plan is to manage expectations but still give the team a shot at another run in Africa’s biggest football competition.
