Nigeria began their AFCON 2025 campaign with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Tanzania, with goals from Semi Ajayi and Ademola Lookman sealing maximum points in Group C, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Eagles controlled large spells of the contest, though they were tested after the break before finding a response.
Here is how the Nigerian players rated individually.
Stanley Nwabali – 6.6
Had little to do in the opening half but stayed alert when called upon. Made a sharp save from Allarakhia before the interval and handled crosses well. Could not be blamed for Tanzania’s goal.
Bright Osayi-Samuel – 6.5
Provided energy on the right flank and supported attacks when space opened up. Defensively solid for long periods, though he gave away a few late fouls as Tanzania pushed forward.
Semi Ajayi – 7.6
A commanding display capped by the opening goal. Rose highest to head Nigeria in front from a corner and remained composed throughout. Led the back line well in the absence of senior figures.
Calvin Bassey – 6.6
Strong in duels and aggressive in his defending. Occasionally conceded set pieces under pressure but recovered well and helped Nigeria see out the game.
Zaidu Sanusi – 6.2
Worked hard down the left and tracked runners diligently. Less influential going forward, and conceded a number of corners late on, but did his defensive job.
Wilfred Ndidi – 6.9
Anchored the midfield and screened the defence effectively. Picked up several fouls as he broke up play, but his positioning helped Nigeria maintain control during key phases.
Alex Iwobi – 7.7
One of Nigeria’s most influential players. Delivered the corner for Ajayi’s opener and assisted Lookman’s winning goal. Constantly linked play and drove Nigeria forward.
Samuel Chukwueze – 8.4
Nigeria’s standout performer. Caused consistent problems down the right with direct running and quick feet. His creativity and movement unsettled Tanzania before he was withdrawn.
Ademola Lookman – 7.4
Scored the decisive goal with a fine strike from outside the box. Drifted into dangerous areas and combined well with Osimhen and Iwobi. Picked up a yellow card but stayed influential.
Akor Adams – 6.8
Worked hard up front and provided a physical presence. Came close early on with a header against the bar and helped stretch the defence before being substituted.
Victor Osimhen – 7.1
Led the line with energy and movement. Involved in several attacking moves and created chances for teammates. Did not score but played a major role in Nigeria’s attacking rhythm.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru – 6.6
Injected energy into midfield and got into promising shooting positions, though his efforts lacked accuracy.

Came on late to help see out the game and offered a physical outlet in the closing minutes.
