Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has yet to receive two months salary worth a combined N150 million with the Africa Cup of Nations only weeks away, Footynaija.com reports.
Since taking charge, Eric Chelle has led the Super Eagles in 6 matches, staying unbeaten with 4 wins and 2 draws, while instilling stronger team spirit, sharper organisation, and improved game control.
The unbeaten run helped ease the tension that surrounded the squad before the arrival of the 48-year-old, who has restored confidence among fans after a shaky World Cup qualification campaign.
A report by SCORE Nigeria has however revealed that the Franco-Malian, who earns $55,000 per month, has been waiting for the last two instalments.
The delay dates back to the final round of the 2026 World Cup playoffs in Morocco and includes payments meant to cover the salaries of Chelle’s foreign assistants.
The timing is worrying, given Chelle’s key role in the Super Eagles’ recent resurgence, all while leading ongoing preparations for Nigeria’s AFCON campaign.
Chelle has remained committed to bridging local and international talent, engaging players from both the domestic league and Europe. His AFCON provisional squad, for example, is considered one of Nigeria’s biggest in years, and reflects that promise to give every deserving player a fair shot.
The unpaid wages put needless pressure on the team during a critical time. As AFCON preparations reach their peak, the technical staff are deep into finalising tactical strategies, fine-tuning conditioning routines, and making crucial decisions on the squad.
