Captain of the Tunisian national team, Ferjani Sassi has set his sights on top spot in Group C as the Carthage Eagles prepare to take on the Super Eagles of Nigeria on matchday two of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, Footynaija.com reports.
Tunisia head into Saturday’s clash at the Fes Sporting Complex full of confidence after their comfortable 3-1 win over Uganda on matchday one. However, they’ll be coming up against a Nigerian side that also took all three points on opening day.
The Carthage Eagles had the last laugh when both sides last met in the 2021 AFCON round of 16. And while Sassi admitted that result meant nothing for the upcoming game, the Tunisian skipper is confident of another win.

“We remember our last game against Nigeria in Garoua, we won the game, it was tough because we had a lot of players with COVID but we had solidarity and showed we can beat any one in any circumstances,” he said at a pre-match press conference.
“It was a really nice game and tomorrow will be another story, we know there are a lot of changes in their team and our team and I don’t think we are favourites for this game because Nigeria did well for the first game (against Tanzania) they have very good players.
“I think it will be a really good game and like I said we are confident because this could be the final of the group stage. We want to finish first and hopefully tomorrow we will do well.”
Victory for either side would put them in pole position to top the group and potentially secure a more favourable route in the knockout stages. A draw, meanwhile, would leave the group delicately balanced heading into the final round of fixtures, increasing the pressure on both Tunisia and Nigeria to avoid any slip-ups.
