Werder Bremen are weighing up a move for Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi, with the Bundesliga side keen to add the Nigerian striker to their attack, Footynaija.com reports.

Awoniyi’s situation at Nottingham Forest has remained uncertain. The 28-year-old, though impressive for the Tricky Trees in recent seasons, has struggled for consistent game time in the Premier League, with injuries keeping him on the sidelines for much of 2024 and into 2025.

The English club have rotated their attack throughout the season, and with the striker spot hotly contested, the Nigeria international has found it tough to lock down a regular starting role.

As of November 2025, Forest are open to talks about potential transfer options. Awoniyi has shown sparks of brilliance when fit but hasn’t yet had a consistent run to secure his spot. That has caught the attention of clubs looking for a seasoned finisher to boost their attack.

According to New Telegraph Nigeria, Werder Bremen are looking for a proven striker to strengthen their attack, and Awoniyi stands out because of his Bundesliga experience and goal-scoring record.

As revealed in the report, the German side have reportedly shown interest in signing Taiwo Awoniyi, either on loan or through a permanent deal.

Awoniyi’s past in Germany is a major factor in their interest. He enjoyed one of his best club spell at Union Berlin, where he scored 15 Bundesliga goals in the 2021 to 2022 season.

His performances established him as a dependable scorer who thrived in a structured system and handled the physical demands of the league.

Bremen are already home to another Nigerian forward in Victor Boniface, who joined them on a season long loan from Bayer Leverkusen at the start of September. Adding Awoniyi to the same dressing room would give Bremen two Super Eagles forwards with Bundesliga experience and proven scoring records.
