Getafe manager Jose Bordalas has addressed growing speculation surrounding Christantus Uche’s future, with the Super Eagles midfielder facing a difficult loan spell at Crystal Palace, Footynaija.com reports.

Uche sealed a season-long loan move to Crystal Palace in the summer after a breakout year in Spain. However, the switch to England’s top flight division has not gone according to plan so far.

The Nigerian midfielder has struggled for playing time under Oliver Glasner and is yet to start a Premier League match, even with the campaign approaching its midway point.

His lack of minutes has fuelled rumours that he is unhappy at Selhurst Park, with talk growing that Getafe could push to bring him back in January.

The situation is further complicated by a conditional obligation-to-buy clause that activates only if Uche starts 10 league games, a milestone that currently looks unlikely.

Speaking ahead of Getafe’s clash with Atletico Madrid, Bordalás was asked about the midfielder’s future and delivered a measured response.

“No, I’m not going to comment on a player who isn’t with us, who isn’t wearing the Getafe shirt, and even less so on Uche, whom I’m very fond of,” he said in quotes revealed by Estadio Deportivo.

“Right now, we’re focused on the squad we have, on the match we have the day after tomorrow against Atlético, and we’ll see what the future holds.”

For Uche, the uncertainty comes at a very crucial time. With the Africa Cup of Nations just weeks away, his limited involvement at club level could weaken his chances of making Eric Chelle’s final Super Eagles squad, unless his situation changes quickly.
