Former captain of Ghana’s Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, has tipped Nigeria’s Super Eagles as one of the leading contenders to lift the AFCON 2025 trophy, Footynaija.com reports.
His comments come at a time when African football is heating up, with several teams gearing up to make a mark at the upcoming tournament. The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Morocco from 21 December to 18 January, bringing together 24 nations across multiple cities and stadiums.

According to a report by Africa Top Sports, Gyan said: “African football has grown so fast. The competition is tougher now, and that’s why tournaments like AFCON are becoming more exciting.”
His words reflect how much the tournament has evolved, with more teams now able to challenge the usual favourites and deliver surprising results.
“Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Morocco look very strong. They are definitely favourites for the 2025 title,” he added.
Gyan’s take highlights the strength of the Super Eagles squad and places Nigeria among the top contenders for a strong tournament run. His opinion carries weight, given his experience leading Ghana to big moments on the international stage.
With AFCON 2025 around the corner, the Super Eagles are heading into a key phase of preparation and planning.
The tournament offers a chance to reclaim their place among Africa’s top sides, and Gyan’s comments could serve as extra motivation for the team and fans alike as they look to make a statement in Morocco.
