Ademola Lookman says his only focus is helping Atalanta win matches after delivering a standout Champions League performance in Wednesday’s 3–0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, Footynaija.com reports.
The Nigerian international scored his first Champions League goal of the season and registered an assist in Germany, a result that lifted Atalanta to 10th in the league-phase standings.
Reflecting on the night, Lookman stressed the importance of securing such a commanding away win.
“I think it’s important right now to get the victory, as 3-0 away from home is a really good result,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
The forward led the line alongside Charles De Ketelaere, who took the player of the match award after also scoring and assisting, and Gianluca Scamacca, who struck the woodwork twice during a dominant Atalanta display.
Lookman said the trio’s chemistry was growing, describing how easy it is to play with his attacking partners.
“Obviously, it’s very free and easy playing with Scamacca and De Ketelaere, because they are quality players. We just have to keep on working and improving as a team, we take this performance and hope to carry it on in the league,” he added.
The win also marked Raffaele Palladino’s first victory as Atalanta head coach. Lookman praised the Italian’s tactical approach, saying it contributed to the goals.
“The Mister has a very clear idea of attacking and entertaining football, which you can see in the goals that we scored. Obviously, the DNA of pressing and hard work is in the team anyway, and we have to keep that going.”
Lookman also addressed the off-field issues that have surrounded his season, including his refusal to train after a failed transfer to Inter and a touchline exchange with former manager Ivan Juric.
“You know, what’s happened has happened. A lot’s gone on. Some things people know, others they don’t,” he said. The winger insisted his focus has now returned fully to Atalanta’s objectives. “Right now is the time to work hard for the team and we need to win games, that’s the most important thing, to get stronger every day.”
Atalanta now sit on 10 points from five matches and turn their attention to a crucial encounter with Chelsea. Victory against the Premier League club could push Palladino’s side into the top eight of the Champions League standings.
