Former Bremen icon Claudio Pizarro has publicly backed striker Victor Boniface to find the net for SV Werder Bremen, urging patience and belief as the Nigerian forward battles a frustrating goal drought, Footynaija.com reports.

The Super Eagles striker, on loan from Bayer Leverkusen for the season, has played nine Bundesliga games so far in the 2025/26 campaign without finding the net.

The 24-year-old has shown moments of promise and creativity, but the goals are still missing, which is a worry for a team that needs more stability up front. Against this backdrop, Pizarro’s show of faith stands out.

“He’s going through a difficult phase at the moment, but he simply has to keep working to show his quality again,” the former Bremen striker, who scored 153 goals for the club, told DeichStube.

“Hopefully, he’ll still get going at Werder; that would be very important for both sides,” he added.

Pizarro also pointed to the mental side of scoring, saying, “Once the goal opens for him, hopefully a lot more goals will follow.”

His support follows that of former Bremen striker Martin Harnik, who called for Boniface to be given the freedom to express himself. As confirmed in the same report, Harnik believes that when the young forward is allowed to play without restriction, he can be a real creative threat.

So far this season, coach Horst Steffen and the club’s staff have shown concern about Boniface’s form.

After a goalless outing against Mainz, Steffen said, “He tried to hold onto the ball up front. He can do even better.”

Despite a bright debut earlier in the season where Boniface brought energy, won duels, and linked up well with teammates, he is still searching for his first goal.
