Nigeria’s women’s national team, the Super Falcons, and the under-17 girls side, the Flamingos, have been ahortlisted for the 2025 CAF Women’s National Team of the Year award, Footynaija.com reports.
The nominations continue a proud tradition of dominance for the West African nation.
The Super Falcons, fresh from their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph, will be chasing a third straight CAF Team of the Year crown.
Under Justin Madugu, they combined resilience and flair to outclass South Africa, Zambia, and hosts Morocco in July’s WAFCON. Their dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Morocco in the final remains one of the tournament’s defining moments.
The Flamingos, on the other hand, are enjoying a meteoric rise. Coach Bankole Olowookere’s young side went unbeaten through World Cup qualification and have been recognised for their fearless brand of football.
Madugu and Olowookere also feature among the nominees for Women’s Coach of the Year, joined by Morocco’s Jorge Vilda and South Africa’s Desiree Ellis.
In the players’ race, Flamingos skipper Shakirat Moshood earns a deserved nod for CAF Young Player of the Year.
Completing Nigeria’s impressive showing, Bayelsa Queens – champions of the domestic league – are contenders for Club of the Year alongside Mamelodi Sundowns, ASFAR, and TP Mazembe.
