Abduljelil Kamaldeen is fast becoming one of Nigeria’s brightest young footballers, a 16-year-old attacking midfielder whose skill, composure, and confidence have made him one of the standout performers at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, Footynaija.com reports.
Born in Kwara State, Kamaldeen has been one of the most exciting names in the Flying Eagles squad. He is known to drive the ball forward with purpose, bursting from deep positions to create space and pose a threat whenever he moves into attacking zones.
During Nigeria’s recent group match against Norway, the youngster almost produced a dramatic late equaliser after a brilliant solo run that had the crowd on their feet.
Before earning his World Cup call-up, Kamaldeen had already shown his quality at the WAFU Zone B U-20 Tournament in Ghana, where he scored in Nigeria’s 4-1 win over Benin. He also impressed against Niger and Ivory Coast, helping Aliyu Zubairu’s side reach the final.
According to a report by The Sun, English Premier League giants Chelsea have now joined the race to sign Kamaldeen. The London club have reportedly sent scouts to monitor his progress closely.
Chelsea’s recruitment department, which has a strong track record of discovering young African talents, view the midfielder as a long-term prospect who could fit perfectly into their youth development structure.
Kamaldeen’s current market value stands at around €25,000 (₦43 million), making him one of the most affordable yet exciting teenage talents available.

Italian side Atalanta and German club Borussia Dortmund are also reportedly keeping tabs on him as his reputation continues to grow.
Kamaldeen’s style of play has drawn comparisons to Alex Iwobi and Jay-Jay Okocha. Like Iwobi, he shows calmness under pressure and a sense of timing in transitions, while his dribbling and unpredictability bring back memories of Okocha’s creative spark in midfield.
Several Nigerian journalists covering the Flying Eagles have praised his performances in Chile, describing him as a creative spark with the composure of an older player.
