Bayer Leverkusen manager Kasper Hjulmand provided an update on the fitness status of Super Eagles forward Nathan Tella while speaking ahead of his side’s UEFA Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain, Footynaija.com reports.
Tella has been out of action for over a month with a knee injury sidelining the Nigeria international since Die Werkself’s 3-1 Bundesliga victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on September 12.
At the time Tella sustained the injury, Leverkusen expected their pacy forward to make a quick recovery but that has not been the case with his elongated absence sparking fears of a more serious setback for the 26-year-old among Bayer Leverkusen faithful.
Addressing these fears, Hjulmand revealed that the former Southampton star’s recovery process encountered some complications but he is now on track to return to action very soon.

“He’s actually already been working on the pitch,” Hjulmand revealed, per Bild. “It’s not a big deal.
“We’re monitoring Nathan day by day. We think things are looking positive, but there have been setbacks. I won’t go into specific details about them. But it’s become longer and more complicated than we initially thought. We’ll see him on the pitch next week.”
Since Tella’s injury setback, Bayer Leverkusen have stayed unbeaten in six games across the Bundesliga and Champions League, posting three wins and three draws.
However, this decent run is set to face intense scrutiny on Tuesday night when reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain rock up to the Bay Arena on matchday 3 of this season’s UCL league phase.
While Tella will not be able to participate in the game, the Super Eagles star will certainly be cheering his teammates from the sidelines as they seek their first win on the continent after recording draws against Club Brugge and PSV Eindhoven.
