For Chiamaka Nnadozie, life in Brighton has not been as bright as the name suggests, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Falcons goalkeeper, known for her fearless saves and confidence on the pitch, admits that behind the gloves and the cheers lies a lonely battle she fights each day.
The 24-year-old swapped the calm of Paris, where she lifted the Coupe de France, for England’s south coast this summer, joining Brighton & Hove Albion after five successful years with the French club.
It was a move that looked perfect on paper, but Nnadozie, who recently finished fourth in the 2025 Women’s Yashin Trophy, says the transition has tested her heart more than her reflexes.
In Nothing Off the Table, a Nike × VERSUS documentary, she has revealed the emotional weight of her new reality.
“Since I moved to Brighton, I cry almost every day because I feel lonely. I miss my family, my teammates and coaches,” she confessed.
She said most people only see the strong, confident goalkeeper who steps onto the field, not the young woman struggling to find her place off it.
“It has not really been easy because people just see you come out on the field to play, they do not know the struggles behind,” she added.
Even so, Nnadozie has found comfort in the small acts of care from those around her. She spoke warmly about Brighton’s players and staff who often check in on her, making sure she is coping well.
“They make sure I am fine, they ask me how I am feeling, and it means a lot,” she explained in the documentary.
I really needed this today. Thank you for writing it.
