Stanley Nwabali’s future at Chippa United looks increasingly uncertain after head coach Luc Eymael admitted the Super Eagles goalkeeper is at the centre of “internal issues” within the squad, Footynaija.com reports.
Nwabali, who joined the South African side in 2022 from Katsina United, has been one of their standout players and quickly rose to captain the club. His commanding displays also earned him a regular spot in Nigeria’s national team, where he starred at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
However, the 27-year-old was a surprise omission from Chippa’s squad in their 2-1 defeat to Polokwane at the weekend, sparking speculation over his future.
Eymael confirmed there are problems behind the scenes but refused to go into details.
“We have to deal with some internal issues that are happening. You saw that one important player [Nwabali] was not there today, it’s a problem we have to solve,” Eymael said.
“I cannot talk about that; I prefer not to talk about it to the media. First, I think we have to solve the problem internally, and it’s sad, but it’s like that sometimes—it happens in soccer. But okay, it gives a chance to other guys. And you know it’s important that everybody wants to play for Chippa United and to go in the same direction. It’s the only solution to take this team up and I think we are capable to do it.”
Nwabali has been linked with Raja Casablanca in recent months, and speculation is growing that outside interest may now be influencing his situation at Chippa.
