Slavia Prague have been dealt a major blow with confirmation that Nigerian centre-back Igoh Ogbu will be out for an extended period after suffering a serious injury, Footynaija.com reports.
Head coach Jindřich Trpišovský revealed the setback following his team’s 2-0 win over Dukla Prague, admitting the defender faces a long recovery and will miss upcoming fixtures at both club and international level.
“Igoh will definitely not play for Inter. The injury was serious and will be long-term,” Trpišovský told Slavia’s official website.
The 25-year-old has been a key part of Slavia’s defensive line, but his absence means he will sit out the Champions League tie against Inter Milan and, crucially, Nigeria’s October 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho.
His absence comes at the worst possible time for Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, who now has to reshuffle his backline for two must-win games. The Malian coach is set to be without Semi Ajayi, Ola Aina, Raphael Onyedika and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru for the October games.
Ogbu has already missed seven matches this season through fitness issues, and the club has confirmed he will now enter a rehabilitation programme, with no timeline yet set for his return. Trpišovský stressed that while the medical team continues to monitor the situation, the defender will not be rushed back.
Slavia must now navigate a demanding schedule without one of their most reliable performers, whose aerial strength, composure, and tactical reading have made him a standout figure in the Czech side’s backline.
