Galatasaray have moved quickly to bring Victor Osimhen back to Istanbul after the Super Eagles striker picked up an injury in Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Rwanda in Uyo, footynaija.com reports.
The Nigerian forward, who was forced off in the 35th minute and replaced by Cyriel Dessers, suffered a chin knock and later complained of discomfort.
Super Eagles team doctors were unable to get him fit in time for the team’s trip to South Africa, ruling him out of the World Cup qualifier against Bafana Bafana.
Unwilling to take chances, Galatasaray arranged a private jet to fly their star man directly to Turkey for further checks and treatment, according to Fanatik.
Club medics will run a full assessment once he arrives in Istanbul, with the extent of the injury yet to be confirmed.
Osimhen’s return is a major concern for the Turkish champions, who want him fit before their Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on September 18. His status for Saturday’s league meeting with Eyüpspor also hangs in the balance.
The 26-year-old, who rejoined Galatasaray in July for a second spell, has already shown his value by scoring twice in his first three Süper Lig appearances.
Last season, while on loan from Napoli, Osimhen powered Galatasaray to a league and cup double.
