Victor Boniface’s long-anticipated move to AC Milan has been delayed after the striker underwent a fresh series of medical examinations in Italy, Footynaija.com reports.

The 24-year-old Nigerian arrived in Milan on Friday following an agreement between the Rossoneri and Bayer Leverkusen over a loan deal worth €5m, with an option to buy for €24m next summer. Personal terms had already been finalised, leaving the medical as the final hurdle.

But concerns over his injury record have slowed progress.

AC Milan director Igli Tare explained: “We are checking Victor Boniface medical. His football skills are excellent but we need to take the right decision. We will make final decision soon on his medical also with our coach Max Allegri.”

Boniface has endured two groin injuries in recent seasons with Leverkusen and previously suffered two cruciate ligament tears, making him a risk for any club. Milan’s medical staff subjected him to a demanding process that included multiple sessions at different facilities.

According to Italian reports, the forward completed initial checks on Friday afternoon before undergoing additional tests at the Galeazzi Hospital, a centre known for its expertise in orthopaedics. Milan even recalled their trusted orthopedist from vacation to oversee the assessments.

Although released late in the evening, doctors have ordered a fourth round of examinations, scheduled for Saturday morning, before any final verdict is given.

For now, Boniface’s proposed switch remains unresolved, with AC Milan unwilling to confirm the transfer until the extended medical process is complete.

The Nigerian striker is still officially a Bayer Leverkusen player.
