Victor Boniface says he’d snub Europe for NPFL club if handed a blank cheque — see his pick

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has revealed that his heart remains firmly in Nigeria, even with the bright lights of European football at his feet, Footynaija.com reports.

The 24-year-old, who currently plays for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, has said he would choose to play in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) over any European giant if given a blank cheque to join any club in the world.

Boniface, a Bundesliga champion and one of Nigeria’s most exciting forwards in recent years, has enjoyed a rapid rise in Europe since leaving Real Sapphire in Lagos for stints in Norway, Belgium, and now Germany. Yet, the striker admitted that no amount of silverware or money can replace the joy of being close to his family, friends, and the life he grew up with in Lagos.

Speaking alongside fellow internationals Frank Onyeka and Wilfred Ndidi on The Culture League Podcast, Boniface shared an emotional yet humorous view of life in Europe and his longing for home.

“If Nigeria is like six hours drive to Germany, I would be driving every day from Lagos to Germany for training. Europe is boring,” he joked, drawing laughter from his teammates.

“I miss everything, not just the food. I will be close to family, friends,” he added, when asked what he missed the most.

On the big question, if handed a blank cheque to play for any club in the world, where would he go? Onyeka said, “Enyimba.” Ndidi, who recently joined Turkish side Beşiktaş, said “Real Madrid.”

Boniface, however, stunned everyone with his response: “I will play for MFM in Lagos. I would rather stay at home. I will stay in Lagos.”

MFM FC, short for Mountain of Fire and Miracles Football Club, is a Lagos-based NPFL side known for its strong community ties and emphasis on local talent. Playing home games at the Agege Stadium, the club has built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most spirited teams, with a passionate fan base often referred to as the “Olukoya Boys.”
