Croatia’s First League has been a fertile ground for Nigerian footballers. From explosive wingers to clinical centre-forwards, Nigerians have left an imprint in one of Eastern Europe’s most competitive divisions.

In this countdown, Footynaija.com highlights the top eight greatest Nigerian goalscorers to have ever graced Croatia’s First League.

8. Musa Muhammad – 2 goals

The right-back Musa Muhammad may not be remembered for his scoring, but across four seasons (2018–2022) and 100 appearances for HNK Gorica, he produced two crucial strikes. More recognised for his defensive tenacity, his goals were an added bonus for his teams.

7. Goodness Ajayi and Ezekiel Henty – 4 goals each

Both players found the net four times, though in different contexts. Goodness Ajayi, a left winger, scored across five seasons and 45 games, bringing energy to the flanks. Ezekiel Henty, in contrast, struck his four goals in just 17 appearances for Osijek (2018-2019), showing sharp instincts in a short stint.

6. Chidozie Awaziem – 5 goals

A centre-back by trade, Awaziem managed five goals in just 28 matches during his lone season with Hajduk Split (2022–2023). His ability to combine defensive solidity with attacking set-piece threat made him stand out, despite his brief stay.

5. Salim Fago Lawal – 8 goals

Still only 22, Salim Fago Lawal has already made a name for himself with eight goals in 45 matches over three seasons for NK Istra (2023–). A promising forward, he represents the new generation of Nigerian attackers rising in Croatia.

4. Theophilus Solomon – 9 goals

Theophilus Solomon featured for three clubs, including Rijeka and NK Istra, tallying nine goals in 51 matches. A journeyman striker, he provided depth and attacking options, while maintaining consistency across his spells.

3. Samuel Eduok – 12 goals

Samuel Eduok, best known for his pace and direct play, enjoyed three seasons at Hajduk Split (2019-2023). His 12 goals in 34 appearances gave him an impressive strike rate, making him one of Nigeria’s more lethal finishers in Croatia.

2. Ibrahim Aliyu – 14 goals

At just 23, Ibrahim Aliyu recorded 14 goals in 79 matches for Lokomotiva Zagreb (2020-2023). His versatility as a centre-forward makes him one to watch for the future.

1. Iyayi Atiemwen – 19 goals

Standing tall at the summit is Iyayi Atiemwen. Over four seasons with three different clubs, including Dinamo Zagreb and Lokomotiva, the left winger struck 19 times in 76 matches. His ability to cut inside and deliver decisive goals has made him Nigeria’s most prolific player in Croatia’s First League history.
