Over the years, Nigerian footballers have left an undeniable mark on the Greece Super League. From cult heroes to consistent performers, these players found the net in one of Europe’s toughest environments.

In this piece, Footynaija.com counts down the top ten Nigerian goalscorers in Greece, based on their official league tallies, seasons, and overall influence.

10. Daniel Adejo – 8 goals

A centre-back by trade, Daniel Adejo is the only defender on this list. Adejo spent eight seasons in Greece with Kalloni, Kerkyra, and Lamia, collecting 188 appearances and scoring eight times. His consistency in defence, alongside his ability to chip in with goals, made him a trusted figure. He is now back in Italy, turning out for Reggina.

9. Victor Agali – 9 goals

Former Super Eagles striker Victor Agali played in Greece at the tail end of his career, with stints at Skoda Xanthi and Levadiakos between 2008 and 2010. He scored nine goals across two seasons before moving to China. Agali is now retired and works in coaching at AS Racine FC in Lagos.

8. Abdul Ajagun – 10 goals

Best known for his time at Panathinaikos, where he arrived in 2013, Abdul Ajagun added further Greek spells with Levadiakos and Panionios. He managed 10 league goals in 78 appearances before his journey took him to Cyprus, Belgium, and more recently to Jordan with Al-Faisaly SC.

7. Michael Olaitan – 16 goals

Michael Olaitan showed great promise during his early years at Veria before moving to Olympiacos, where he won a league title. Later stints came with Ergotelis and Panionios. In total, he recorded 16 goals in 63 matches across four seasons. Sadly, injuries slowed his career, and he has been without a club since 2021.

6. Joseph Nwafor – 17 goals

Joseph Obinna Nwafor had one of the longest spells in Greece, featuring for Paniliakos and OFI Crete across five seasons. He made 111 appearances and scored 17 times. His most memorable years came with OFI, where he became a reliable forward. His later career took him to Peru, before fading from the spotlight.

5. Patrick Ogunsoto – 25 goals

Patrick Ogunsoto was a fan favourite at Ergotelis, where his powerful style and big personality won supporters over. He scored 25 league goals in 77 appearances, mostly between 2008 and 2010. Though he never got capped by Nigeria, he remains one of the country’s most recognised exports to Greek football.

4. Abiola Dauda – 28 goals

Abiola Dauda was a consistent forward across several Greek clubs including Atromitos, AEL, Panetolikos, and Apollon Smyrnis. In five seasons, he hit 28 goals in 116 appearances. Even in his late thirties, Dauda remains active in Greece, now playing for Aris Petroupolis in the Gamma Ethniki.

3. Brown Ideye – 31 goals

Brown Ideye, a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner with Nigeria, brought class and experience to Olympiacos, where he enjoyed a prolific spell from 2015 to 2017. He later featured for Aris Thessaloniki. Ideye bagged 31 goals in 65 league games, averaging nearly one every other match. Today, he has shifted into administration, serving as Director of Player Pathways at Atlantic Business FC.

2. Benjamin Onwuachi – 33 goals

Benjamin Onwuachi spent six seasons in Greece with clubs such as Ionikos, Kavala, Panetolikos, and Skoda Xanthi. Known for his pace and sharp finishing, he netted 33 goals in 126 appearances. Though his later career was in Italy’s lower leagues, his Greek numbers remain highly respected.

1. Amaechi Ottiji – 59 goals

Amaechi Ottiji stands tall as the greatest Nigerian goalscorer in the Greece Super League. Playing for Panachaiki and Ionikos between 1990 and 1997, Ottiji scored 59 goals in 165 matches across seven seasons. Tragically, his life was cut short in 2004, but his legacy as Nigeria’s most prolific scorer in Greek football remains untouched.
