Beşiktaş have opened formal talks with Leicester City over a potential transfer for Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, as the Turkish club steps up efforts to reinforce its squad ahead of the 2025/26 Süper Lig campaign, Footynaija.com reports.

Transfer insider Jacobs Ben has confirmed that negotiations are currently underway, with the Istanbul-based giants pushing to secure the services of the 28-year-old.

Ndidi has emerged as Beşiktaş’s top target following the recent departure of Portuguese midfielder Gedson Fernandes to Spartak Moscow.

Ndidi, who has two years left on his contract with the Foxes, could be allowed to leave following Leicester’s drop to the Championship.

Despite the club’s relegation, the Nigerian international remains one of the most reliable holding midfielders in European football, admired for his tackling, positional discipline, and work rate.

Since joining from Genk in 2017, Ndidi has amassed over 300 appearances for Leicester, playing a pivotal role in their FA Cup and Community Shield triumphs under Brendan Rodgers.

His consistency has earned him admiration from top European clubs, including Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, and Manchester United, though none of those sides have submitted a formal bid.

Beşiktaş, however, have moved decisively and hope to wrap up the deal before the Süper Lig kicks off this weekend. While personal terms have yet to be agreed, both clubs remain optimistic that a full agreement can be reached in the coming days.

Should the transfer go through, Ndidi would become only the six Nigerian in the history of Besiktas after Emmanuel Babayaro, Daniel Amokachi, Christopher Ohen, Ike Shorunmu, and Michael Eneramo.
