Ademola Lookman has been the subject of interest in Italy after his fine campaign with Atalanta. Victor Boniface’s failed move to AC Milan sparked heated debate online, while Victor Osimhen only recently settled his uncertain future at Napoli.
These off-field stories, coupled with the pressure of qualification, have raised questions about the mental readiness of the squad. Former NPFL forward Azeez Abolaji, in reaction, has said that the players’ state of mind could affect their performances if not properly managed.

“The @NGSuperEagles would need more than just coaching for the 2 matches next month,” he posted on X.
“Some of our best players are going through serious transfer issues in a period we need them most, this is where a top football psychologist comes in.”
He went further to recall the impact of Dr Robinson Okosun, the respected sports psychologist who previously worked with the Super Eagles.
“I miss Dr Robinson Okosun,” Abolaji added, in what many interpreted as a call for the Nigeria Football Federation to restore that role within the team setup.
Okosun was often praised for his ability to keep players mentally balanced during high-stakes competitions. His absence, according to Abolaji, leaves a gap that the team may feel when Nigeria take on their World Cup qualifying opponents in September.
