Wilfred Ndidi is on the verge of completing a move to Turkish giants Besiktas, despite a last-minute approach from La Liga side Valencia, Footynaija.com reports.

According to transfer insider Ben Jacobs, Valencia launched an eleventh-hour bid to derail the deal, but their offer was swiftly rejected by Leicester City.

The Foxes had already reached a €9.5 million agreement with Besiktas for the Nigerian midfielder, and talks are now nearing completion, with only minor formalities left to settle.

Ndidi, 28, has already agreed personal terms and is expected to sign a three-year deal with the option of a fourth. Besiktas are reportedly arranging for the Super Eagles star to fly in on a private jet to undergo his medical.

The experienced midfielder, who has spent eight years at Leicester, made it clear following the club’s relegation that he was keen to continue playing top-flight football. With interest coming from a host of clubs including Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Betis, Juventus, and even Manchester United, the Nigerian’s next destination was widely anticipated.

Valencia attempted to hijack the transfer at the final hour, but their bid came too late, with Leicester fully committed to the agreement already in place with the Turkish side.

Besiktas, who have been actively reinforcing their squad ahead of the new campaign, are confident the deal will be wrapped up this week.

Ndidi has made over 240 appearances for Leicester since joining from Genk in 2017.
