Justin Madugu, head coach of the Nigerian women’s national team, oozed confidence during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Super Falcons’ second group match against Botswana at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Tunisia in their opening game of the tournament. Goals from experienced center forward Asisat Oshoala, WAFCON debutants Omorinsola Babajide and Esther Okoronkwo ensured the win for Madugu’s ladies.
Meanwhile, the Mares of Botswana suffered a narrow defeat to Algeria in their tournament opener and will be looking to breathe life into their WAFCON campaign with a major upset of the competition’s record holders.
Asked by Nigerian journalist Victor Ademola, how his team plans to neutralize Botswana’s threat and deliver another superb performance when both teams clash at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, Madugu explained that while there will always be room for improvement, his ladies are ready for Thursday’s test.
What Justin Madugu said
“Like we all know, every team that is here wants to win and every game they play, they also want to win, just as we equally want to win. And for every game you play, you make assessment of your team. What did you do well? What did you not do well? And then you try to improve on it so that the next game can always be better.
“Like I said, we are not unmindful of the errors we had in the previous game. It’s still a work in progress. Up until the end of the tournament, you will still have things to do to get your team better. So with every game, we will make observations, try to make corrections and try to ensure that the team gets better so that we can play better than what we had in the last game.
“There will always be errors. Sometimes, even a change of personnel can determine a lot of things. There are health factors and a lot of other factors that come into play. Like Chiamaka said, we know they lost their first game and they will want to come out and ensure that they get something out of it.

“We are also not resting on our oars. We know what we have come here to do and we cannot achieve that target without bringing all our efforts. It’s a win-win for us, as far as we are concerned. We know what to do and we’re hoping to get the best out of the match tomorrow.”
A win for Nigeria’s Falcons will guarantee an early passage to the knockout rounds where the stakes are certain to get even higher.
