Christy Ucheibe has made a bold promise to Nigerians ahead of the Super Falcons’ Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final showdown against host nation Morocco on Saturday, July 26, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Falcons are set to face the Atlas Lionesses at the Olympic Stadium come Saturday, in what will be a rematch of the 2022 WAFCON semi-final where Morocco emerged victorious and progressed to the final.
30-year-old midfield lynchpin Halimatu Ayinde and current skipper Rasheedat Ajibade were both sent off in the second half of that semi-final with the Super Falcons consequently losing out via a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw.
Ucheibe, who was a part of the starting XI for that heartbreaking game, believes things will be different this time around. Speaking to AdemolaVictorTV on Friday, the midfielder told Nigerians what to expect in Rabat.
What Christy Ucheibe said
“For me I’m going to say Nigerians should expect a tough fight from us to them as we also expect the same from them. It’s not going to be an easy match but with God, everything is possible.
“I think it’s going to be a different ball game this time around. In the last WAFCON in 2022, they beat us in a penalty shootout but even after going down to nine players, we were able to put up a good fight. Now we’re going to play eleven against eleven and we’re going to show toughness on the pitch. We’re going to give them the fight.
“To the fans that have been here with us throughout this tournament, I want to say a big thank you for the support, with your lovely voices cheering us up. I want you all to rest assured that we’re going to bring Mission X back to you by God’s grace and we’re going to show our toughness as Nigerians.”

Saturday’s clash will be only the second meeting between Nigeria and Morocco throughout history. Having suffered defeat three years ago, the Super Falcons will be relishing the opportunity to exact their revenge on the biggest of stages.
