Burnley are stepping up their search for a new striker with Genk forward Tolu Arokodare emerging as a top target for Scott Parker’s side ahead of their Premier League return, Footynaija.com reports.
The Clarets, promoted from the Championship in May, are understood to be seriously considering a move for the 24-year-old Nigerian, who enjoyed a prolific 2024-25 campaign in the Belgian Pro League.
Arokodare scored 20 league goals for Genk last season, form that earned him the prestigious Ebony Shoe, awarded to the best African player in Belgium.
At 1.97 metres tall, Arokodare offers a physical presence and aerial threat Burnley have lacked in recent seasons. With no striker scoring more than 12 goals during their promotion campaign, Parker is keen to reinforce the attack, and sees the former 1. FC Köln loanee as an ideal fit, according to the Telegraph.
However, negotiations remain complicated. Genk are reportedly demanding £25 million (€30 million) for the Super Eagles forward, who has two years remaining on his contract. Burnley, meanwhile, hope the asking price will drop as the transfer window progresses.
Signed from Latvian side Valmiera in January 2023, Arokodare made an immediate impact at Genk, scoring on his debut against Gent. He has since become a central figure at the club, playing a key role in their recent title challenges.
Last season, Genk led the league from August to April before a poor playoff run saw them drop to third on the final day.
Arokodare’s rise has also attracted interest from other Premier League clubs and even Bayern Munich, but Burnley are determined to bring the Nigerian star to Turf Moor if they can strike a deal.
