Turkish Super Lig side Gaziantep FK have opened negotiations with Henry Onyekuru over the potential signing of the Nigerian international , Footynaija.com understands.

The 28-year-old winger, who has struggled with injuries in the Saudi Pro League, is reportedly eager to return to Turkish football – a league where he previously enjoyed successful spells with Adana Demirspor and Galatasaray.

According to the Turkish press, Gaziantep have made initial contact with the Nigerian forward, who is now a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Saudi Arabian club Al Fahya. However, no agreement has yet been reached regarding the transfer fee.

Onyekuru spent two years at Al Fayha, having joined the club in the summer of 2023 for a transfer fee just over €3 million. The former RSC Anderlecht star netted ten times and added three assists in 31 games in the Saudi Pro League.

However, he only made just four appearances for Al-Fayha last season, playing a total of 147 minutes due to a series of injuries. The former KAS Eupen and Monaco man is understood to be keen on reigniting his career in a familiar environment.

The Nigerian forward enjoyed some of his best football in Turkey, notably during three separate stints at Galatasaray, where he won a league title and emerged as the club’s most prolific Nigerian player before Victor Osimhen’s recent rise.

Signed by Everton in 2017, Onyekuru never featured for the Premier League side due to work permit restrictions. He was part of Nigeria’s squad that clinched bronze at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

A decision on the deal is expected in the coming days as Gaziantep FK look to bolster their attack ahead of the new campaign.
