At just 15 years old, Ebenezer Ifeanyichukwu Harcourt has become one of the most talked-about names at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, Footynaija.com reports.
Born on 21 October 2009, the Abia State-born goalkeeper has taken the tournament by storm as Nigeria’s first-choice shot-stopper, guiding the Flying Eagles to the semi-finals without losing a match.
Harcourt’s performances have been nothing short of impressive; despite being the youngest player in the squad representing Nigeria at at the ongoing 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, he has shown maturity far beyond his years.

His outstanding performances have also sparked interest beyond the continent. According to a report by Africa Top Sports, several European scouts have been closely monitoring the 15-year-old during the tournament in Egypt. Clubs from France, Belgium, and Germany are believed to be discussing possible trial invitations and long-term development plans.
In the report, an unnamed scout described Harcourt’s awareness and reflexes as “simply astonishing for a 15-year-old,” adding that with proper nurturing, he could develop into a world-class goalkeeper.
This growing attention reflects the high ceiling many see in the Sporting Lagos prospect, whose maturity and shot-stopping ability have quickly turned him into a continental sensation.
In four matches so far, Harcourt has kept three clean sheets, with his standout moment coming in the quarter-final clash against Senegal.
After a goalless draw, Harcourt stepped up in the penalty shootout, saving two penalties and helping Nigeria book a spot at the upcoming 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. This has earned him widespread praise and comparisons to Nigeria’s legendary goalkeepers.
Nigeria was drawn in Group B, alongside Tunisia, Morocco, and Kenya. The Flying Eagles secured a 1–0 win against Tunisia, held Morocco to a 0–0 draw, and drew 2–2 with Kenya. These results earned them a second-place finish with 5 points.
Now, all eyes are on the upcoming semi-final showdown against South Africa’s Amajita. As reported by the CAF website, Nigeria’s unbeaten run owes a lot to Harcourt’s composure and ability to organise his defence under pressure.
