Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has admitted that the Turkish Super Lig side are interested in securing the services of towering Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu from recently relegated Premier League side Southampton, Footynaija.com reports.
Onuachu’s future has been talked about plenty in recent weeks, especially after Southampton’s confirmed relegation to the EFL Championship. Reports have claimed that the club are looking to part ways with the Nigerian with Trabzonspor touted as a likely destination in the event of a departure.
The speculations possess an element of the truth it would seem, following Ertugrul’s recent statement. The 48-year-old, who made no secret of his club’s desire to re-sign their former loanee on a permanent basis revealed that Southampton’s asking price has been the only stumbling block.

“Onuachu is a player that was on our agenda but we could not get him due to financial figures,” Ertugrul said as per Transfermarkt.com via X
“We asked recently, his club still insists on the same figures. We do not have such an agenda at the moment.”
A reputable goalscorer for most of the clubs he has played for, Onuachu has struggled to make a meaningful impact at Southampton since joining The Saints from Belgium Pro League side Genk in the middle of the 2022/2023 season.
His arrival at the St. Mary’s was heralded by poor form and fitness issues which hampered his ability to settle into life in England and necessitated a loan move to Super Lig side Trabzonspor in the 2023/2024 season.
While on loan in Turkey, the then 28-year-old marksman showed just why he was one of the most lethal finishers to come out of Nigeria. He returned 17 goals and 5 assists, firing Trabzonspor to a third placed finish in the Super Lig.
