Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi was left to rue his team’s missed chances in the first half of their Premier League battle against Everton, with the Cottagers squandering an early lead to end up on the wrong side of a 3-1 result on Saturday, Footynaija.com reports.
Fulham were one of the favourites to secure Europa League football ahead of next season courtesy of a doggedness that saw them go toe to toe with many of the traditionally top sides earlier in the season.
However, a recent run of bad games, evidenced by a record of four defeats in their last five Premier League outings, has left the Cottagers on the fringes with the tantalizing prospect of playing in Europe next season slipping further out of reach.
Iwobi has been Fulham’s most productive player this term with an impressive tally of nine goals and six assists to his name. But even he was left powerless as the Cottagers crumbled in front of their home fans and the Nigeria international couldn’t hide his frustration afterwards.
What Alex Iwobi said after the game

“Of course it was disappointing,” he said in quotes revealed by Fulham’s official website.
“We felt we controlled the first-half and then when they scored the equaliser, it probably boosted them for the second-half.
“We had a few chances to put away in the first-half which we didn’t capitalize on, and obviously we’re disappointed to concede from set pieces yet again.”
Fulham currently occupy 11th place and find themselves four points behind 8th placed Brentford. Speaking further on how Marco Silva’s men can remedy their current predicament, Iwobi called for more focus from his teammates.

“I’m not too sure what it is. It’s something we need to work on in training – we’ve been telling each other to focus more,” the Nigerian said.
“If you look at the rest of the season, we’ve been doing really well and we’ve been getting points against strong sides, solid sides, especially the top teams, but unfortunately it’s games like these where we need to get the points that we haven’t been able to do so.
“I couldn’t tell you what it is but whatever it is, we need to sort it out because we’ve still got a few games to go and we have to end the season as strong as we can. The season’s not done – let’s see what we can do.”
