“Next Benzema” – All you need to know about Victor Boniface-Madrid rumour
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Speculation is heating up over a potential summer move for Victor Boniface to Real Madrid, with growing interest in how the Super Eagles forward could fill the space left by Karim Benzema, Footynaija.com reports.

After an explosive first season at Bayer Leverkusen where he scored 21 goals and contributed 10 assists, the Nigerian international was instrumental in the club’s Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double.

The 24-year-old has all the traits of a modern striker who does more than just score. At Leverkusen, he has shown he can drop deep to link play, hold off defenders, and create chances for teammates.

His game is built around intelligence and selflessness. These are qualities that defined Benzema’s role during his long spell at Real Madrid.

With reduced involvement in recent weeks, combined with reports of Xabi Alonso strongly linked to taking over from Carlo Ancelotti at the Santiago Bernabéu, there is growing belief that Boniface could follow his current boss to the Spanish capital.

Among other factors that make this potential move a positive one, the Nigerian forward knows Alonso’s system well and has flourished in it, making him an easy fit if the Spanish tactician is given the top job.

It is within this context that a report by Afrik-Foot highlighted how Boniface could be seen as Benzema’s natural successor. Unlike many strikers who chase personal glory, Boniface thrives when others around him shine. He often draws defenders out of position, presses with intensity, and creates spaces for wide players to cut inside.

His combination of power, awareness, and passing gives him an edge in fluid attacking systems. Benzema’s partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale was successful largely because of his unselfish work.

Boniface is cut from a similar cloth, often playing more like a No. 10 than a traditional centre-forward. That tactical versatility could prove ideal for a Madrid team built around the star qualities of Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior.

Also, Boniface’s understanding of when to hold up play and when to release runners has improved under Alonso’s guidance. His pressing often triggers responses from the entire team, showing leadership and football intelligence without needing the captain’s armband. At Leverkusen, he is a player who lifts the group through his effort and discipline.

He may not yet be a global brand like some of Madrid’s other transfer targets, but in terms of character and fit, Boniface ticks many boxes.

As rightly stated in the report, his game suits a team that already has enough flair and needs a striker willing to do the hard work. Madrid have missed that balance this season, and Boniface could be the answer.

If Los Blancos want someone who will complement their wide forwards and bring structure to their frontline, Victor Boniface might just be the best option available. He would not only fill a position but could also bring back the kind of centre-forward presence they have lacked since Benzema’s exit.
