Nigeria’s U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, have landed in Cairo, Egypt, as they begin final preparations for the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, Footynaija.com reports.

The squad, made up of 24 players and nine officials, arrived on Sunday evening aboard an Egypt Air flight, according to the official NFF website.

Led by head coach Aliyu Zubairu, the team is staying at Jewel Sports City and Aqua Resort, a base that will serve them throughout the competition.

Their first training session in Cairo is scheduled for Monday evening as the seven-time African champions gear up for the tournament which runs from 27 April to 18 May.

As part of their build-up, the Flying Eagles will play a friendly match against host nation Egypt on Tuesday 22 April. The encounter against the Young Pharaohs will kick off at 5pm local time (4pm Nigeria time) and will be played at the Cairo International Stadium.

Also, as reported by Footynaija earlier, the Flying Eagles will remain in Cairo for the group stage, beginning their AFCON campaign against Tunisia on Thursday 1 May at the 30 June Stadium.

Nigeria are drawn in Group B alongside Tunisia, Morocco, and Kenya, with only the top two guaranteed a spot in the knockout round.

This year’s tournament is also the pathway to the FIFA U20 World Cup, with all four semi-finalists set to represent Africa in Chile from 27 September to 19 October.

Nigeria last won the Africa U20 title in 2015, and coach Aliyu Zubairu will be hoping to guide this new crop of talent to glory and secure a return to the world stage.
