Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have landed in Egypt, setting their sights on an eighth U-20 Africa Cup of Nations title, Footynaija.com reports.

After arriving in Cairo and settling at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Coach Zubairu’s 24-man squad is now fully focused on their opening match.

With head coach Aliyu Zubairu in charge, the young team is confident ahead of a tricky Group B campaign against Tunisia, Morocco, and Kenya.

Speaking ahead of the Tunisia clash, Coach Zubairu had been quoted, saying the team will aim for maximum points in their opener before taking things step by step as the tournament progresses.

While the team features a good mix of local-based and foreign-based talent, a few names stand out based on form, leadership, and experience.

Here are five Flying Eagles to keep a close eye on at the tournament.

5. Caleb Ochedikwu (Midfielder – NK Uljanik Pula, Croatia)

Ochedikwu offers calm and maturity in the middle of the pitch. The Croatian-based midfielder is known for his vision and ability to link play quickly. His sharp positioning makes him reliable when under pressure, and he is expected to control midfield battles, especially in tight matches.

4. Clinton Jephta (Forward – Enyimba FC)

Jephta continues to grow in confidence since his move to Enyimba. The lively forward combines pace with smart movement and has a knack for finding pockets behind defenders. He played a major role in Nigeria’s build-up friendlies, and his ability to drift wide and cut in makes him a threat to any defence.

3. Emmanuel Chukwu (Defender – TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, Germany

Playing in Germany has helped Chukwu mature faster than most players in the squad. The 18-year-old centre-back is strong in duels and quick on recovery. His partnership with captain Daniel Bameyi is one the coaches have worked hard on. Chukwu also poses a danger from set-pieces due to his height and positioning.

2. Kparobo Nathaniel Arierhi (Forward – Lillestrøm SK, Norway)

Tipped to become “next Osimhen,” Kparobo Nathaniel has the physical presence and composure that every top striker needs. He has been consistent in Norway with Lillestrøm SK’s youth setup and adds strength and directness to Nigeria’s forward line. His ability to hold the ball and bring others into play could be key for Nigeria’s attack in Egypt.

1. Daniel Bameyi (Defender – Bayelsa United)

The captain returns to lead once more, this time from his new base at Bayelsa United. Bameyi, who has already featured for the Super Eagles, is widely respected in the squad for his discipline and vocal presence.

Whether at right-back or centre-back, his reading of the game and timing of tackles are top quality. He is also expected to provide the emotional drive behind Nigeria’s push for the trophy.

Coach Zubairu’s men have no shortage of talent, and with the spotlight on these five, fans will hope they deliver when it matters. Nigeria open their U-20 AFCON campaign against Tunisia, and the journey to Chile 2025 starts now.
