Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar has spoken of his pride after winning La Liga’s Goal of the Month award for March, following his spectacular back-heel effort in Valencia’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Osasuna, Footynaija.com reports.
The Nigerian forward, who joined Valencia in January after a challenging stint with Real Sociedad, scored the audacious equaliser in the 88th minute at El Sadar to secure a vital point for his side. The goal, a clever improvisation from a low cross by Sergi Canós, earned widespread praise and has now been officially recognised as the best in La Liga for March.

In a video released by La Liga on social media, Sadiq reacted with joy: “Thank you so much for voting me for the Goal of the Month, it’s time for me to react to my Goal of the Month. A good cross from Canos, I was trying to go to the second post then the defender blocked me,” Sadiq said.
“Then I just saw the ball in my front, backheel, and I just went to celebrate. I am so excited about the goal.
“Crucial one point because we were losing 3-2 and this 88th-minute goal gave us one point, I am so happy. Scoring this goal motivates you.”
Asked if it was the best goal of his career, the 28-year-old replied: “I would say one of the best.”
Sadiq also revealed he plans to keep the award in a special place: “Of course I will, it is from La Liga.”
Since his arrival at the Mestalla, Sadiq has found form again, scoring four goals in nine league games. His impact has sparked speculation that Valencia are considering a permanent deal.
With the club locked in a relegation battle, Sadiq’s goals could prove decisive in their bid to stay up.
The former AS Roma star will look to score his first goal against Real Madrid when Valencia head to the Santiago Bernabéu today (Saturday).
