Confirmed: Ndidi’s Leicester City officially relegated from Premier League following Liverpool defeat

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and his club Leicester City have officially been relegated from the Premier League after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to title-chasing Liverpool at the King Power Stadium, Footynaija.com reports.

Both teams went into Sunday’s game in the East Midlands with contrasting but equally important objectives in mind. A win for the Foxes would’ve kept a tiny flicker of hope for a miraculous turnaround in their season while the Reds were all about taking a step further towards the title.

Unfortunately for Ndidi and Leicester City, second half substitute Trent Alexander-Arnold, on his return from an injury setback, put all the noise surrounding his future behind him to score the only goal of the game and consign them to an immediate return to the EFL Championship.

Leicester’s relegation comes as no surprise to many. The Foxes have failed to win any of their last ten Premier League games and have managed just one win in their last 18 matches. They also became the first side in PL history to go nine straight home matches without a goal.

What next for Ndidi?

Despite Leicester City’s misfortunes this season, Super Eagles star Wilfred Ndidi has managed to have a decent campaign personally.

The midfielder’s current contract at the King Power Stadium runs until 2027 with the option of another year. However, with Leicester’s imminent return to England’s second tier, he could potentially seek a move away in the summer.

Ndidi possesses all the goods to thrive at many a top-flight teams across Europe and with rumoured interest from a host of clubs in La Liga and Ligue 1, the Nigeria international could be primed to take his talents elsewhere.
