Chelsea have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, potentially handing rivals Manchester United and Juventus a significant advantage in the battle for his signature, Footynaija.com understands.

The Blues came closest to securing Osimhen’s services last summer, but a dramatic last-minute collapse in negotiations saw the Nigerian forward instead move on loan to Turkish giants Galatasaray.

While Chelsea have continued their search for a proven goalscorer, the club has now shifted its focus elsewhere.

According to Caught Offside, Osimhen is no longer a primary target for the west London side heading into the summer transfer window.

Despite being linked with several top-tier forwards over the past year — including Ivan Toney, Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko — Chelsea have yet to land the elite striker new boss Enzo Maresca desires. The club’s current shortlist reportedly favours Gyokeres and Sesko over Osimhen.

The development offers fresh hope to Manchester United and Juventus, who both remain keen on signing the 25-year-old.

Osimhen has impressed during his loan spell at Galatasaray, netting 28 goals in 32 appearances and reasserting his status as one of Europe’s most in-demand centre-forwards.

At Old Trafford, United are planning a major attacking overhaul, with uncertainty surrounding Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee. Osimhen is seen as a potential focal point for the team’s new-look frontline.

Meanwhile, Juventus are eyeing the Nigerian as a possible replacement for Dusan Vlahovic, who could depart after the Club World Cup. The Italian club hope director Cristiano Giuntoli’s strong relationship with Osimhen’s representatives could give them an edge.

Osimhen won the Africa Footballer of the Year award in 2023 after leading Napoli to a first Scudetto title in over 30 years. That year, he also became the first African in history to finish as Serie A’s top goalscorer, claiming the Capocannoniere.
