Slavia Prague’s hopes of securing a domestic double came to an abrupt end on Tuesday night as they suffered a surprise 1-0 home defeat to Sigma Olomouc in the Czech Cup quarterfinals, Footynaija.com reports.
Injured Nigerian defender Igoh Ogbu, recently invited to the Super Eagles for the March international break, was unavailable for the tie, while fellow countryman David Moses started on the bench and featured in the second half.

Despite being the runaway leaders of the Czech First League, Slavia were stunned at the Fortuna Arena by a resolute Sigma side. Forward Jan Kliment’s 28th-minute strike proved decisive, sending the visitors into the semifinals and silencing the Prague crowd.
It was a shock result considering the gulf in quality between the two sides. Slavia sit 33 points ahead of seventh-placed Sigma in the league standings and had beaten them twice already this season, with a 4-1 aggregate scoreline across those matches.

Sigma Olomouc, however, had their own Nigerian influence, with Moses Emmanuel Amasi and Yunusa Muritala both making substitute appearances to help see out the famous win.
Despite the setback, Ogbu and Moses are still in pole position to claim the Czech league title for the first time in their careers.
Slavia currently top the table with 72 points, 13 ahead of closest challengers Viktoria Plzen, with two matches left in the regular season before the Championship round begins.
Ogbu, who joined Slavia from Norwegian side Lillestrøm in January 2023, has twice finished as league runner-up. He lifted the Czech Cup two years ago but won’t be repeating the feat this time around.
