The Super Eagles will return to action on 21st March 2025, when they face Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, Footynaija.com reports.

This match will also be Eric Chelle’s first on the touchline as Nigeria coach. With both teams fighting for better standings in Group C, here are five bold predictions for this much-anticipated clash.

5. Expect late drama

In this qualifying campaign, both teams have been involved in late twists. While Rwanda have not consistently scored in the dying minutes, they have shown resilience. In their qualifier against Benin, they equalised in the 70th minute and pushed until the end for a winner.

For Nigeria, their 1-2 loss to Benin in June 2024 showed how lapses in concentration can be costly, as they conceded the decisive goal just before half-time. With both sides showing fighting spirits and vulnerabilities late on, this game could produce a deciding moment in stoppage time.

4. Eric Chelle’s selection surprise

Chelle has already shown boldness by omitting players like Ahmed Musa and Maduka Okoye from his squad. Do not be surprised if his selection favours a fresh midfield combination, possibly involving Alhassan Yusuf and Raphael Onyedika, to bring more energy and control.

The Super Eagles coach could also surprisingly opt for Tolu Arokodare over Victor Boniface, thereby adding a physical presence against Rwanda’s defence.

3. A heavy pitch

Kigali’s weather forecast for March 21 predicts 24°C with potential rain earlier in the day. A wet pitch could affect Nigeria’s fast wingers like Samuel Chukwueze and Ademola Lookman, possibly forcing Chelle to rethink his attacking approach.

The Amahoro Stadium pitch is generally well-maintained, but rain could make it heavier, slowing the game down and benefiting Rwanda’s defensive structure.

2. Rwanda wonʼt sit back

Rwanda are currently top of Group C with 7 points from four matches (CAF standings). Their 2-0 win over South Africa proved they are capable of playing on the front foot and causing problems for big teams.

With home support, expect Rwanda to attack and test Nigeria’s defence from the start.

1. Osimhen could steal the show

After missing the first four qualifiers through injury, Victor Osimhen is finally back for Nigeria. He has been in red-hot form at Galatasaray, scoring 26 goals in 30 matches so far this season.

The Super Eagles need a lift, and if Osimhen is at his best, he could lead the charge and finally get Nigeria’s campaign back on track.
