Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman was in action for 55 minutes as Atalanta fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Firenze to see their hopes of winning the Scudetto suffer a potentially irreparable dent, Footynaija.com reports.

Lookman’s Atalanta went into Sunday’s game looking to bounce back from their recent loss to Serie A leaders Inter Milan and stay in contention for the Scudetto. However, La Dea fell short again in Firenze, suffering their second consecutive defeat in the league either side of the international break and falling further behind in the title race.

Fiorentina started strong, dominating possession and pressing Atalanta early on but they struggled to break through despite a few close calls. As the game progressed, Atalanta created a couple of half chances, though David de Gea remained largely untroubled.

Just before halftime, Moise Kean capitalized on a loose touch from Isaac Hien, sprinting half the pitch before finishing coolly in the corner.

La Viola’s dominance continued into the second half with Lookman enduring an uncharacteristically quiet day at the office in Atalanta colours. In his 55 minutes of action, the Nigeria international managed just three touches in the opposition box and failed to test De Gea in Fiorentina’s goal.

Atalanta (58) currently sit six and four points behind first and second placed Inter (64) and Napoli (61), who play later on Sunday. La Dea could potentially fall even further behind in the Scudetto race depending on the results of the Nerazzurri and Partenopei’s games against Udinese and AC Milan respectively.
