Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has provided an update on the fitness of Bright Osayi-Samuel ahead of Nigeria’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe in Uyo, Footynaija.com reports.
Osayi-Samuel, who plays for Fenerbahce, picked up a suspected muscle injury during Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali. The right-back was forced off in the second half, with midfielder Alhassan Yusuf stepping in to help close out the game.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Chelle reassured fans that the 26-year-old is fit and ready for selection.
“All the players are ready to play so no problem,” the Malian tactician stated.

Chelle also addressed his decision to deploy Yusuf at right-back, despite the presence of natural defenders in the squad. He explained that the move was based on careful tactical planning rather than chance.
“We work it out on training session. On my analysis, I think it was the better choice. So I don’t make choice with luck. We work on the training session, we have two teams and after that I make better choice. I saw that from the training.”

The Super Eagles coach also spoke about the involvement of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) players in the national team, stressing the need for them to adapt to his playing style.
“My job is to see all the Nigerian players in the world. I need to analyze every player because this is the World Cup qualifiers, then the CHAN, and AFCON.
“So you need to work together. I think there are lots of players who can play in the national team. They need to work and know how I want my team to play. This is how I pick players.”
Nigeria will face Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday as they look to build on their victory over Rwanda and strengthen their World Cup qualification hopes.
