Nigerian forward Dickson Abiama is set to join German Bundesliga 2 side TSV 1860 Munich on loan from 1. FC Kaiserslautern, with an option for a permanent transfer at the end of the season, Soccernet.football reports.

Abiama, 26, only signed for Kaiserslautern in January 2024 but has now been given the green light to make a temporary switch in search of regular playing time.

The move will see the striker remain at TSV 1860 Munich until the end of the 2024 campaign, while his contract with Kaiserslautern remains valid until 2027, according to Sky Sports Germany.

The forward first rose to prominence with Greuther Fürth, where he made a remarkable debut in the 2020-21 DFB-Pokal, scoring twice in extra time to inspire a 6-1 victory over Oberneuland.

He continued to impress during that season, playing a crucial role in Fürth’s promotion to the Bundesliga. His most memorable moment came on the final day of the campaign when he netted an 83rd-minute winner against Fortuna Düsseldorf to secure Fürth’s automatic promotion, despite his team being reduced to 10 men.

Abiama made 24 appearances in the Bundesliga for Greuther Fürth before the team suffered relegation.

Abiama is a veteran of the 2 Bundesliga having featured in 90 games in the division, registering 13 goals and five assists.

Now, with playing opportunities limited at Kaiserslautern, the Nigerian striker will aim to make an impact at TSV 1860 Munich, who are currently pushing for a strong finish in the German second tier.

The loan deal, agreed after discussions on Sunday, provides TSV 1860 with an option to sign Abiama permanently at the end of the season, should he impress at the club.

Abiama will now look to hit the ground running at his new club as he seeks to reignite his career in the Bundesliga 2
