Nineteen times Premier League champions Liverpool have their eyes on sensational Super Eagles front man Ademola Lookman ahead of a potential summer swoop for the Atalanta star, Footynaija.com reports.
Liverpool are cautiously making preparations for a potential life without their talismanic Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, whose current contract will expire at the end of this season and they are considering Lookman as a possible replacement.
As per reports from Transfer News Live, the Nigerian international has emerged as a top target for the Reds, who seem increasingly unlikely to be able to convince Salah to pen a contract extension after failing to record any significant progress up to this point.
Lookman has been exceptional for Atalanta since joining the Italian club from RB Leipzig in 2022. He scored 49 goals and provided 22 assists in 107 appearances.
However, his recent off-field spat with Nerazzurri boss Gian Piero Gasperini has cast uncertainty over his future at the club. Following the incident, reports emerged, suggesting the former Fulham man plans to leave Atalanta at the end of the season.
With several top European teams circling the Nigerian star ahead of the summer, he shouldn’t have much difficulty securing a move away from Bergamo. La Dea will likely be open to selling, since his contract expires in 2026.
A move to Liverpool in the summer will no doubt be a big step up for Lookman’s career as the Reds are currently arguably the strongest team in the Premier League and one of the strongest across Europe.
However, replacing Salah, who boasts a record of 241 goals and 109 assists in 387 appearances for Liverpool, will be a huge task for the Nigerian forward. But if there’s anything Africa’s best player has shown in the past year, it’s that he’s more than capable of shining on the biggest stages.
