Nigerian midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has been named Barnsley’s Player of the Month for January, following a string of standout performances despite the team’s inconsistent form, Soccernet.football reports.
The 26-year-old received the award, sponsored by Copier Systems Limited, after impressing in three of the club’s five matches during the month.
This recognition follows his December Goal of the Month award, which he won for a spectacular long-range strike in a thrilling victory over Exeter.

Barnsley started January on a strong note with back-to-back wins but suffered three consecutive defeats against Bristol Rovers, Stevenage, and Wycombe. That poor run saw them drop down the League One table and extend their winless streak to five games into February.
Despite the setbacks, Barnsley remain just six points adrift of Huddersfield, who currently occupy the final playoff position. The club will be relying on Nwakali’s form as they push for promotion to the Championship.
Reacting to his award, Nwakali thanked the fans for their support and promised more strong performances. “All thanks to God and to all the fans who voted me as the player of the month (January), more good things to come,” he said.
Barnsley will look to get back on track when they host Huddersfield on Saturday in a crucial clash that could reignite their promotion hopes.
